The Bot is assembled!

Finished assembling the Z axis this past weekend. Couple of issues, but they were overcome. The first problem was, well...gravity. There wasn't enough friction to raise the stage using the tubing, so I went with a direct drive using a 1/4 inch jam nut and a 1/4 inch rod coupling. Drilled and tapped the rod coupling for a 4-40 machine screw to act as a set. I also wound up soldering the drive rod couplings to their respective holders. This may or may not cause issues down the road...we'll see. I hooked up a drill to the stepper shafts and the stages traveled with no difficulty and there wasn't any growling from the steppers, so it looks like everything is aligned ok. The other issue was the Z stage drifting away from the rail on the side without the lateral bearing. My solution was to add another set of bearings to that side. Again, no obvious issues with this addition. My only real concern now is whether or not the stepper/drive rod/couplings will hold up with the weight of the extruder. But that is a problem for another day. Next up? Building the stepper drivers and modifying a power supply! More updates to come!

Thanks Mr. Higgs! She'll look even better once she starts printing the tiny cups! :)
